This was our first time to Bodle Lake. It was a really nice property, but I don’t think they have a boat (at least we didn’t see one) so you have to have a dog in order to retrieve your birds if dropped in the water. It rained yesterday and this morning, so the post is accurate that you need a 4 wheel drive vehical. The game wardens and their came by today. This is the first time we have seen the game wardens. Super nice guys but they did check everything, our licenese, bags, guns, and scouted our area and our car. The blind sits about 8 feet above the water. It is a steep decent to the water so be careful if it is raining as it is super slick. The lake drops off descently fast when setting the decoys and there is vegetation in the water.
Now to the good stuff – We saw about 50 ducks this morning. We only had about 5 decoy in. There was a large group of about 15 whistling ducks. They circled and we shot 3, they then came around again and almost sat down in the decoys. We decided not to take any more and let them go. We decoyed in 2 mallards. My son hit his, but I missed mine. He also got spoonie. The biggest treat of the day, was all of the geese that flew by. We probably saw about 60. Two flew right over me, but I missed them. Needless to say, not my best performance today and my son was a little disappointed that I missed both of the geese. Next time.
