Only a handful of ducks were visible.  There were, however, a lot of geese.  Five flocks even passed right over the pond during the morning without calling.  One of those flocks was low enough and close enough to permit a Canada goose to be bagged with #4 shot.  Had preparations been made for a goose hunt (i.e., decoys, calls, and heavier shot) instead of a duck hunt, it’s conceivable that limiting out on geese could have been a very real possibility.
