Those of Whom Affected by Harvey

Private Water Fishing member; Bob Scheidemann, was kind enough to share with us some important information which may help those that have been displaced, in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Please, read and share with any loved ones, family, or friends that have been affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Dear Clients, Friends, and Family,

In the wake of what is now possibly the largest natural disaster in U.S. History caused by Hurricane Harvey, Houston is faced with a long road to recovery.

I am heart broken over all the stories I have heard in the last few days of the loss suffered by so many, and despite being faced with my own losses, which include at least one of my homes and my office under water, I wanted to make sure that everyone has the following information for assistance to help get you back on your feet:

Regardless if you have flood insurance or don't, go to www.disasterassistance.gov and register. If FEMA will support then you may expect them to cover the following things with maximum pay of $33K per claim
- up to two months rent
- depending on the damage, will cover bedroom, water heater, not sure maybe AC unit outside, but not the garage or storage areas on the first floor
- personal property except clothes.

File a claim with your insurance company. (Tip: If you don’t have flood insurance and your home was flooded by the waters released in the reservoir and not the rains, be sure tell your insurance company that detail.) For more info on filing a claim and deadlines related to House Bill 1774, please see https://www.texastribune.org/2017/08/30/heres-what-harvey-victims-need-know-about-filing-claims-sept-1/.

Call your mortgage company if you have a mortgage on your home, request assistance until your home is habitable again.

Contact a Water Remediation Company like Servpro and get on the list to properly mitigate the potential for mold in the home. (If your insurance company says they will not cover your claim, DO NOT start any work until you determine the cost and decide you will pay out of pocket.)If you want me to add you to the list with my Servpro contact, please text or e-mail me!

Bring crews in to remove wet sheetrock, carpeting, insulation and baseboards. You can do this yourself if you are short of funds and your insurance will not cover.

Contact the Red Cross at http://www.redcross.org/about-us/our-work/disaster-relief if you need further assistance.

IRS Tax Relief-According to the IRS announcement, certain deadlines -- falling on or after Aug. 23, 2017 and before Jan. 31, 2018 -- are granted additional time to file through Jan. 31, 2018. You may also be able to defer payments due to the IRS. Please check with your CPA.
