Rough Creek Lodge

I haven't been to this property but have been thinking about having our regional sales meeting there.  I was curious to see if any of you that have been there would recommend the property?  Also, if anyone has stayed there and could give an opinion that would be appreciated as well.

Thanks.

Brad

I have stayed there and also fished the lake.   The accommodation are five star and the food was excellent.  Meeting rooms are nice too. They cater to the sportsman who likes to hunt, shoot and fish I believe.  Not sure you would get much done in the way of work as my mind would be set on fishing.  I caught fish on top water frogs, spinner baits and plastics.

Also not sure how far a golf course is from Rough Creek.  Glen Rose has some shopping and Dinosaur State Park. Also down the road is the old Dr. Pepper bottling plant that you can arrange a tour. This time of year the wild flowers put on a decent show in that area too.

If y'all need a fishing guide I know of one, "me".

I can't help you with Rough Creek Lodge, Brad, but what I consider the very best barbecue in Texas (which, of course, has the best in the world) is within a few miles from there. It's a hole-in-the-wall place called The Loco Coyote, just off the highway on County Road 1004. It's absolutely fabulous!

I started fishing Rough Creek long before I joined PWF.

I've never stayed at the lodge but the activities there are countless. Upland bird hunting, hog hunting, fishing, four wheelers, horseback riding, swimming, zip line and on and on. The restaurant is one of the best you'll find in a hunting preserve setting.

The lake is like a small public reservoir with drop offs, lily pads, hydrilla, timber, rock piles, creek channels....et al. Lots of cover and structure.

There are some decent fish in the lake but lately there's a lot more 1-3 lb. fish. I think the management company is more interested in numbers than quality, although I've caught fish up to 10 lbs. in years past.

Plastics and jigs in the channels; spooks, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and cranks around the shore and near grass.

Squaw Creek golf course is in Glen Rose as are several good restaurants, a courthouse square and antique shopping. These are in the center of town off of hwy. 67.
