Oklahoma Fishing Licenses

I've discussed this with Steve several times, and neither of us can understand why more of our members aren't driving the short distance north to fish at Cody Ranch. Lodging is exceptional. The 7 lakes on the ranch offer some outstanding fishing, and the big ones are there. Yes, you must have an Oklahoma Fishing license to fish private lakes and ponds in Oklahoma unless you live in Texas and are under 16 or over 65, but that's not a big deal. A license may be purchased online, or at Walmart in Atoka, Oklahoma - about 20 minutes from the property.

The cost of licenses is:  1 Day - $15; 6-day - $35; Season - $55

Those of you who try it will probably do so more than once. Those who don't will miss out on some great bass fishing.....but you'll also be leaving more big ones for me to catch, so I guess that's OK. I just hate to think of us losing this wonderful fishery due to lack of use.

Tom,

Thanks for reminding our members about this great property. The members that go here almost always return and return and return. The issue has been getting members to try it the first time. I would hope that the fishing license expense is what is not holding them back, but perhaps it is? Anyway it is a great ranch with some really good fishing lakes, that rarely see a lure. From our office in Richardson you can be there in 2 hours and 15 minutes with no stops.

I'd love to try these lakes but there isn't a boat to use.

Jason,

About 50% of our members have a boat. Please make a reservation for a couple weeks out, asking someone to join you. Might be surprised!

With 7 lakes we just could not find a fiancial way to have boats on all the lakes. And don't have the manpower to move boats between lakes.

Steve:

What happens if I make a reservation weeks in advance and nobody can or wants to go w/ me; thereby making it impossible for me to go, do I still have to pay for that reservation?

And I understand not having the $ for seven boats but what about one or two that are permanent to their lakes so no moving boats and making these lakes more accessible to members like me who don't have a boat?

On two person minimum lakes (Less than 10 properties in the whole club) you need to make a reservation with another member or fishing guest.

On a side note, when I was a member prior to purchasing the club, I reached out and a few other guys reached out to me to fish together. I drove to San Saba with a member I had never met and we had a great time. We were not life time friends and did not go golfing or out to dinner with our wives, but he became a fishing buddy.

As far as boats go, it is possible to add boats to Cody Ranch. It is simply a cost vs revenue issue. Maybe one day we will. In the meantime you may want to stick with one of the lakes (about 90%) that have boats. I really don't have a better solution. We understand that we miss some business on lakes without a boat. Not a perfect answer, but always try to be transparent on how and why.
