Does anyone float tube anymore? For various reasons ive decided to get back into float tubing. Always fun to have a partner. Ive used two way radios in the past to swap notes while on the water.

I used to float tube all the time several years ago.  I loved it, it was a blast.  These small boats, and kayaks made it so easy to fish these bigger ponds, and smaller lakes is probably why i stopped. Also i can't put 10 rods on a tube. lol.  That's probably a good thing. lol.   Defiantly would be something i would consider doing again though.

There's nothing that gets your heart beating more, then when your floating on a tube, and that stump you can't see run's up your leg.

Kelly,

Larry Sykes float tubes and uses a kick boat.  He mostly throws a fly rod.  I'll email him and let him know about this thread.  He's in Dallas.

I don’t know much about fly fishing but I will contact you soon. Nothing says we have to fish the same lake the same way

I usually fly fish from a float tube, though I'm not a purist.  If it's hot and the fish are down deep I'll use a plastic worm.  If I'm taking a friend I'll bring my trolling motor and battery to use on one of the club boats.  The beauty of a float tube is it's easy and quick to load in and out of the car, and it's very quiet.  The downsides:  Launching them is often a pain when you have to wade through weedy muck to get to deeper water.  They don't work as well on the larger lakes or places that don't have much protection from the wind.  Consequently, I find myself pretty much fishing the same couple of lakes such as Athens Northeast or Ben Wheeler.  Also, you can't take as much gear with you.  In some ways that's good, as makes you focus on what's essential.  I took a casting rod and a fly rod with me last week, and it didn't work too well.  I ended up going back to the put-in spot, where I got rid of one of the rods.  In summary, I'd say I prefer a float tube to one of the boats, especially if I'm fishing alone.  with a boat I constantly get blown around, and spent as much time maneuvering the thing as fishing.

i float tube 70% of the time, prefer it when warm enough and southern winds. I can hold my position longer with back to wind, fishing down wind structure. It also forces me to slow my moving around, allowing time to fish an area completely. Used to fish big lakes and loved hooking up when a 50k bass boat cruised by with the trolling motor cranking on full to cover max water. Hit me up and would love to meet up.
